20-point written condition report before buying, selling or servicing · S$80–S$150 · Islandwide · All brands
A piano inspection by Piano Repair Singapore gives you a complete, written condition report covering all major structural and mechanical systems. It is most commonly requested before purchasing a second-hand piano, before committing to restoration work, or as part of an annual health check for a valued instrument.
Our inspection covers 20+ points across six systems. The report is written in plain language, identifies every fault found and rates the piano's overall condition. Where repairs are required, we provide estimated costs so you can make an informed decision about whether to proceed with purchase or servicing.
Inspection cost: S$80–S$150. Available at your home, the seller's home, or any other location in Singapore. Usually same-week availability.
Soundboard integrity (cracks, separation, crown loss), bridge condition and gluing, pin block integrity, cast iron frame, cabinet structure and case condition.
All strings checked for corrosion, rust, breakage and uneven winding. Tuning pins tested for holding power — a failed pin block is one of the most expensive structural repairs.
Key travel, centre pin corrosion, spring condition, wippen function, damper alignment and response across the full keyboard. Note any stiff, silent or misbehaving keys.
Hammer felt condition — groove depth, compression, alignment. Assess whether voicing or replacement is required and note any uneven tone across the registers.
Check all 88 key tops for chips, cracks, missing pieces and yellowing. Assess key level (evenness of all keys at rest) and note any warped or missing keys.
All pedal functions tested. Cabinet inspected for damage, veneer peeling, hinge condition and lid/fallboard operation. Note cosmetic defects that affect value.
Buying a second-hand piano in Singapore without an independent inspection is a significant risk. Common issues found in second-hand pianos include: tuning pins that no longer hold tension (requires pin block replacement at S$1,500–S$3,000), broken bass strings, severely worn hammer felt, stuck or non-returning keys, and moisture damage to the soundboard. These faults are not visible from a casual look at the piano and are rarely disclosed by private sellers.
An inspection fee of S$80–S$150 can save you from a purchase that requires thousands in repairs, or help you negotiate a fair price that reflects the piano's actual condition.
WhatsApp us the piano's location and brand — we'll arrange an independent inspection before you commit to purchase.
A standard 20-point piano inspection costs S$80–S$150. This includes a full written condition report with estimated repair costs for any faults found. If the inspection is combined with a tuning or other service at the same visit, we may offer a reduced rate. Travel is included islandwide.
Our inspection covers: soundboard (cracks, integrity, crown), bridges (gluing, condition), pin block and tuning pin holding power, all strings (corrosion, breaks), full action mechanism (key travel, springs, centre pins, wippens), hammers (wear, groove depth), dampers, all 88 keys (covering condition, level), pedals (all functions) and cabinet (cosmetic condition, hinges, fallboard). The written report notes every fault found and provides cost estimates for repairs.
Yes — strongly recommended. A piano can appear in good cosmetic condition while hiding expensive structural or mechanical faults. Failed tuning pin block, corroded strings that cannot hold tune, worn hammers, humidity damage to the soundboard — these are invisible to a non-specialist and can cost S$1,000–S$8,000+ to repair. An independent inspection before purchase gives you objective information to make a sound buying decision or negotiate a fair price.
Yes. We travel islandwide to inspect a piano at whatever location it is currently at — the seller's home, a shop, a school, or a warehouse. You do not need to move the piano before inspection. For pre-purchase inspections, we inspect at the piano's current location before any sale or moving commitment is made.
