Every piano should be tuned after a move — without exception. Moving a piano subjects it to vibrations, position changes and a new humidity environment, all of which cause string tension to shift. A piano that was perfectly in tune before a move will be at least partially out of tune after it.

The vibrations of a moving vehicle cause string tension to shift gradually across all 220+ strings. Even a smooth, careful move produces enough vibration to take a piano out of fine pitch.
Uprights may be tilted or laid horizontally during moves. This temporarily changes the load distribution on the soundboard and pin block, affecting string tension.
Moving to a different room or building means different humidity and temperature. The wood of the piano takes time to equalise to the new environment, which causes further pitch drift after placement.
Allow 2–4 weeks after a move before tuning. This gives the piano time to acclimatise to its new location. Tuning too soon risks a less stable result as the wood continues to settle.
A pitch raise may be needed in addition to standard tuning if the piano has not been tuned for some time before the move, or if it was in storage. Pitch raises cost an additional S$50–S$80 on top of the standard tuning fee. We will advise at booking whether we expect one to be needed, based on when the piano was last tuned.

Position changes during transport — especially tilting an upright or moving it up stairs — temporarily alter the mechanical load on the soundboard and pin block. The change in environment (different humidity and temperature) then causes further drift as the wood acclimatises. A piano should be tuned after every move.
Standard tuning after a move costs S$120–S$180, the same as any home tuning appointment. If the piano has not been tuned for 2 or more years before the move (or was in storage), a pitch raise at an additional S$50–S$80 may be required. Total for pitch raise + tuning in one appointment is S$170–S$260. We advise on this when you contact us to book.
After positioning the piano in its new location: check that all keys respond normally and none are stuck or jammed; check that all three pedals return freely after pressing; play up and down the keyboard listening for new buzzes or rattles that might indicate something shifted loose during the move. If anything sounds wrong, mention it when booking your tuning — we will investigate it at the appointment.
