We use high-quality ivory substitute key coverings — acrylic or Ivorite (a textured acrylic that mimics ivory's slight grip and appearance). Real ivory cannot be purchased, sold, or installed in Singapore under CITES regulations. Modern Ivorite and quality acrylic key tops provide excellent playing surface feel and are visually indistinguishable from quality ivory to all but the most experienced eye.
Full white key covering (52 keys) costs S$350–S$700 depending on material — standard acrylic at the lower end, Ivorite at the higher. Individual key top replacement costs S$25–S$50 per key. Black key replacement costs S$15–S$30 per key, or S$200–S$350 for all 36 black keys. Written quote provided after key inspection.
Yes. We can replace individual chipped or damaged key tops as a spot repair. However, if multiple keys have damage or the overall covering is yellowed unevenly, full re-covering produces a more uniform appearance. We'll show you both options and help you decide based on your instrument's condition and your budget.
Key covering requires the key set to be removed and taken to our workshop, with a turnaround of 3–5 working days. The piano cannot be played during this period. We schedule key covering jobs to minimise disruption — typically starting on a Monday or Tuesday for return by the end of the week.
